POPIA Privacy Notice
The MLRA processes your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
- What we collect: the information you provide on the membership form — typically your name, address, email, and phone number.
- Why we collect it: to administer your membership, verify eligibility (residency/ratepayer status in Muizenberg and Lakeside), communicate meeting notices, minutes, and Association news, and maintain the membership register required under the Constitution.
- Legal basis: your consent, given by submitting the membership form, and the Association's legitimate interest in administering its membership.
- Who has access: members of the Executive Committee, primarily the Honorary Secretary, who is responsible for the Association's official records.
- Retention: your information is kept for as long as you remain a member, and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping purposes, after which it is securely deleted.
- Your rights: you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time, and may object to further processing, by contacting us via the Contact page.
- Complaints: if you believe your information has been mishandled, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).
- We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties outside the Association's administration and governance functions.
Committee: this is a starting template, not legal advice. Please have it reviewed (and appoint/confirm your Information Officer as required under POPIA) before relying on it, and add a matching required "I agree to the Terms & Conditions and POPIA Privacy Notice" checkbox question to the Google Form itself, since consent needs to be captured at the point of signup.
